Cosmetic Applications To Transform The Teeth

The way that a person looks can affect their confidence and self-esteem. When an individual feels unattractive, they may be less likely to interact socially. Thus, their quality of life can suffer.

Still, there are many ways that a person can improve their appearance. The face, which is generally the primary focus of many cosmetic improvements, is highly affected by the condition of the teeth. Teeth that appear yellow, misaligned, or improperly matched to the dimensions of the face can be cosmetically altered to improve the overall look of the smile.

Here are several cosmetic dental applications that can help the teeth appear more attractive.

Veneers

A dental veneer is a slender piece of tooth-shaped resin or porcelain that is placed on the front surface of a tooth, concealing the underlying imperfections. Teeth that are discolored, misshapen, or even mildly crooked can be covered and transformed by veneers.

The number of veneers that are needed to complete a cosmetic improvement depends on the specific needs of the dental patient. If only one or two teeth are damaged or blemished, only one or two veneers are needed. However, if the majority of the patient's teeth are affected, a full set of veneers can be applied to cover all of the teeth that are visible as the person smiles, laughs, or speaks.

Prior to the application of a veneer, the patient's mouth must be assessed, and a mold must be created to ensure that the veneer is designed to fit the specific contours of the patient's oral cavity. Additionally, a bit of tooth material must be removed from the front of the tooth so that the tooth can accommodate the veneer without altering the patient's bite after the device's placement.

Chemical Whitening

Chemical whitening is the application of peroxide-based chemicals to the tooth enamel to whiten the teeth. Most stains that stem from the ingestion of pigmented foods and beverages can be removed or reduced by chemical whiteners.

The whitening agents are available in both over-the-counter applications and professional products. However, professional products whiten the teeth more thoroughly and rapidly than most products that are available for consumer purchase.

Professional whitening products are applied by a dentist in a clinical setting. Thus, the application process is performed safely. Also, specialized equipment, such as ultraviolet lighting, may be used to intensify the effects of the whitening treatment.
